Research indicates that delayed diagnosis can harm bones.
Young women who experience delayed diagnosis of early menopause face a higher risk of developing low bone density, according to research by scientists at the National Institutes of Health, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
The researchers concluded that so-called primary ovarian insufficiency can make women more susceptible to osteoporosis and fractures in the future. This condition occurs in girls and women under 40, when their ovaries stop working normally because they cease to ovulate or produce estrogen, a hormone that helps bones absorb calcium. Menopausal symptoms can be alleviated or reduced with bioidentical hormone modulation, a balanced diet, and regular exercise.
The study also indicated that the onset of menstrual irregularity before age 20 was a strong risk factor for low bone density, as the adolescent years are considered a critical period for the development of healthy bones.
We cannot overlook the increasingly high levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and increasingly low levels of Vitamin D3 (or D hormone), which greatly facilitates this bone degradation process.
