Bromide May Be Killing Your Thyroid.

Understand where it's found and how to prevent it.

Have you ever heard of sodium bromide? This chemical substance, often unknown to most people, may be closer to your daily life than you imagine – and what's worse: it can directly affect your thyroid, the gland responsible for regulating metabolism, energy, weight, and even mood.

Sodium bromide is a compound used in industry, present in pesticides, photographic products, some dyes, and even in industrialized flours in certain countries. Although not a heavy metal, bromide can pose serious health risks.

The major problem is that bromide competes with iodine within the thyroid. And iodine is essential for the production of T3 and T4 hormones. When bromide takes the place of iodine, the thyroid does not function as it should.

In more severe cases, hypothyroidism or even more serious alterations in the gland can occur.

Ultra-processed foods (especially breads and pastas made with certain flours)

Some simple actions can help reduce exposure and protect your thyroid health:

Prefer natural and fresh foods instead of ultra-processed ones.

Use iodized salt or natural sources of iodine, such as sea algae.

Ensure intake of nutrients such as vitamin C, selenium, and magnesium, which aid in bromide elimination.

The recent case of a man who developed a rare disease after exposure to sodium bromide serves as a warning. Small daily choices can protect your thyroid and keep your metabolism functioning well.

At Clínica Revitalize, we believe that information is health. Be mindful of what you put on your plate and the environment around you – your thyroid will thank you.
