Olive Oil Good for Health

Olive oil enjoys an excellent reputation and is listed as one of the key elements for cardiovascular health. However, it is more beneficial than thought, now new studies have found that olive oil is good for eye health, as it seems to prevent macular degeneration, a disease that affects the retina of elderly people and is the second leading cause of blindness in the elderly, after diabetes.

However, it is more beneficial than previously imagined. New studies have discovered that olive oil is beneficial for eye health, as it appears to prevent macular degeneration—a condition affecting the retina in elderly individuals and the second leading cause of blindness in older adults, after diabetes.

Olive oil contains components that protect the blood vessels of the eyes and reduce the risk of vision loss, especially after the age of 50.

The results of two studies were recently published in the journal “Archives of Ophthalmology.”

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the ideal intake is 2 tablespoons (23 grams) of olive oil per day. An important note is that, while all olive oils contain monounsaturated fat, those classified as “virgin” and “extra virgin” are more beneficial for heart and eye health because they are less processed and contain the highest levels of polyphenols, an antioxidant essential for health.

Additionally, olive oil contains other anti-inflammatory components that help protect blood vessels in the eyes and reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration.
